For many years we have supplied British made chargers for use with MacGregor/JR
radio systems, JR having been unable to supply suitable chargers with 3 pin
plugs. These chargers have proved to be very reliable (thank you, A & J!) and we hope to continue to stock them for a long time yet.
However with the forced introduction of Nickel Metal Hydride battery packs, JR
have taken a long, hard look at the reliability of the Ni-MH packs that they
supply. They have concluded that the best way forward is to provide temperature
regulated flight packs and a matching wall charger with a thermal cut out.
We introduced JR’s new battery packs to you in the February newsletter. The green heat-shrink
covering and an extra white connector easily identify them. It is this
connector that needs to be connected to the new style charger to take advantage
of the temperature protection circuitry built into the charger. Please note
that this connector MUST be connected for the charger to work. It will not
charge other packs without an appropriate temperature sensor.
However the new packs can be used with other chargers by leaving the temperature
sensor disconnected. This may be useful for fast charging at the flying field,
although the wall charger should be used in the main to ensure maximum
reliability of the green packs.
